When you know someone with a sizeable fruit tree or vegetable patch, you tend to find yourself with a fridge full of said fruit or vegetables. You also find yourself eating the same thing repeatedly unless you get a bit creative.
So many times in my life and faith, I find myself “eating the same”, and well, it gets boring. Some aspects are not negotiable at the core, so that’s where the creativity comes in. What breathes life into something that’s become ho-hum?
What within me elevates my own experience of life and faith? What can I see around me or experience that will bring new energy? I see so many people searching for comfort in the traditional, a return to what we once were when maybe we were better. I see others push boundaries, their comfort coming from bucking the system, busting norms, and forward-facing.
While forgoing tradition and embracing change for the sake of it ignores history and the building blocks to now, it denies the growth, learning, and wisdom of the past. If I want to breathe life into anything, I must be mindful of tradition but firmly forward-facing and listening to the Spirit.
So, what new recipe will I find to experience the Fruits of the Spirit so I’m not “eating the same”? And more importantly, what will I do with the bag of 10 avocados sitting on my desk? Avocado cheesecake, anyone?
