SPRED supports the religious and spiritual development of people with an intellectual disability within the Diocese of Toowoomba. We aim to help these people integrate socially, psychologically and spiritually in parish worship, whilst recognising their individual value, attributes and contributions to society and the Church.
The SPRED community has a strong commitment to recognising and maintaining the dignity of people with an intellectual disability. SPRED advocates for the appropriate care and treatment of people with an intellectual disability. We enable the Gospel invitation to "become fully human and fully alive" to be a reality in the lives of the SPRED community's Special Friends. |
Operations of SPRED:
A community of volunteers, under the leadership of the SPRED Education Officer, commit to enriching their own faith and the lives of the Special Friends through forming friendships and interacting with them. Volunteers attend regular Volunteer only sessions and Integrated SPRED sessions. As a community everyone joins together for masses, reconciliation, formal and informal small and whole group social outings.
SPRED operates in Toowoomba at the Diocesan SPRED Centre, Sacred Heart Parish, St Thomas More's Parish and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. There is also a SPRED group operating in the Roma Parish. |
