The Diocesan Pastoral Statement tells of us being Pilgrim people living God's dream. The Ministry for Pastoral Formation works collaboratively with all communities in the diocese to help bring to realisation the ideals and values of this statement.  This involves education, faith experiences, formation, communication and celebration of who we are as God’s sacraments in today’s world.

Operations of the Ministry for Pastoral Formation:

In the history of the Catholic Church there have been countless changes and movements that have demanded new directions. In this new millennium we have challenged to prepare and be part of a new vision of Church. It is an exciting time where together we will reflect the wonderful nature of God.

Pastoral Formation operates under 5 key principals:

  • Leadership in every Catholic community is to be a collaborative role involving lay people and priests.
  • A well-defined and commissioned leadership structure (e.g. a pastoral council) is to be in place in every faith community.
  • A designated pastoral coordinator, at least in every faith community where there is no resident "full-time active" priest is to be appointed .
  • The notion/principle of cooperation and sharing resources, both personnel and material across regions/deaneries .
  • Appropriate training is to be offered to people in each faith community so that ministries can be provided confidently, effectively and in a pastorally sensitive way.
