The work carried out by the Tribunal is based on the percepts of law of the Code of Canon Law issued by Cardinal Secretary of State 28-01-1983. Those Laws pertaining to the Tribunal are Canons 1055-1165.

The Tribunal's main function is to prepare the ACTA for the various Decrees of Nullity and the other forms of dissolution of the marriage bond. It is primarily part of the Church's judicial system.

The values of this agency are based on the teachings of the Church on the Sacrament of Matrimony. We also recognise the "healing role" of the Tribunal in ministering to our clients - we draw on the Gospel values of compassion and justice.

Tribunal Operations:

  • Staff conduct interviews with the Petitioner, Respondent (if taking part) and witnesses.
  • While not a counsellor, staff are asked to be a respectful listeners, show compassion and respect in a non-judgemental environment.
  • Complete the ACTA for various processes.
  • Write Judgements as an assessor for the Regional Tribunal.

The Toowoomba Tribunal connects regularly with Tribunals across Queensland and Australia.
