The Diocesan Liturgical Commission exists to promote a healthy liturgical life with the Diocese of Toowoomba. Its primary role is to support and assist the Bishop in his role as the moderator, promoter and custodian of liturgical life within the Diocese. Not common before the renewal of the Second Vatican Council, Liturgical Commissions are now recommended under Church Law. |

Commission Operations:
The Commission operates through a permanent office staffed part-time by Mary Schwartz, who is a graduate in liturgical studies. The Commission also holds workshops and seminars in parishes and promotes diocesan in-services on liturgy. There are also resource materials produced by the Liturgical Commission on a diverse range of liturgy topics. |
| |
The role of the Liturgical Commission through the Liturgy Office is to:
- Promotes good liturgy by offering workshops to parish liturgy committees and other bodies.
- Maintain contact with Liturgical Commissions and liturgy personnel in other dioceses.
- Implement changes to the missal and other rites.
- Formulate and implement diocesan liturgical and sacramental policy.
- Promote appropriate and worthy liturgical music and sacred art.
- Review liturgies at which the Bishop presides.
- Promote the study of the RCIA.

| |
| The Diocesan Liturgical Commission is also aware of the particular needs of those parishes which exist in very isolated areas, and of the cultural and social differences that exist within the Diocese. The Commission respects the culture and needs of the Indigenous people. |

Fr Jim Cronin is the Chair of the Commission with Fr Peter Schultz and Mary Schwartz as Executive Officers. Additional members are appointed to the Commission, and where appropriate second a number of persons to work with the Commission in matters relating to their area of expertise. |
