Horizons

Horizons, published by us, is our own quarterly magazine. It’s full colour and available for free across the Diocese. Horizons is an important method of communication and outreach to parishioners and the wider community. It features stories of events and projects from local parishes as well as information about ministry and services offered by Diocesan Agencies.

  • Reflections leading into Advent and Christmas

The liturgical ‘new year’ is upon us and with its arrival we are reminded once again of the joyful expectation which calls us to prepare for the coming of Christ. The season of Advent uses symbols of light and darkness to recount the story of God’s Incarnation into a world which wasn’t perfect. Advent helps us focus on the coming of the Lord at Christmas and challenges us to bring to life the Word of God in our daily lives. How do we help others recognise and celebrate the existence of God in a world where joy and suffering go hand in hand?

  • Vocations: Where are you going? Sr Marie Tania Ostini's Story

There’s nothing particularly remarkable about my early life that would mark me out from a crowd. So how did I end up pursuing such an unusual path and becoming a Carmelite nun? The bottom line is that I came here on invitation from God – which is usually termed a ‘call’ or ‘vocation’. I think that rural life gave more space for this to happen as it was easy to get in touch with the natural world, feel part of it, and wonder where the life-force in things: trees and animals… comes from? Also, there is a certain type of quiet in the country that can help a person become reflective of the inner world of thoughts and feelings.

  • From the Toowoomba Diocese Catholic Schools Office

The end of another school year is looming quickly. Toowoomba Catholic Schools continues to rise to the challenge of change and improvement as we work together with families and parishes to fulfil our mission of providing high quality Catholic Education to 8500 students in our 31 schools.

Catholic schools are charged with a challenging mission to make the Reign of God a reality in the lives of students, staff and families. In this endeavour we can never hope to be good Catholic schools if we aren’t first and foremost good schools.
